I feel the need to vent!
A few months ago my family and I moved to Georgia for my husband’s job. While we looked for the perfect house in the perfect city for the perfect price, we stayed in a not-so-perfect extended stay hotel for 2 ½ months. My husband, 3 kids, and I lived in700 sq feet for 2 ½ months! Honestly it wasn’t that bad. Do I have bad feelings about it? Yeah. Am I a little scarred? Yeah. But those feelings are fading and I feel like I could do it again if I had to. So what’s my point? Well if you didn’t know, upon moving to a new state you have 30 days to get a license in that state. I didn’t really know this, but I wasn’t overly worried about it because after all I didn’t have a permanent residence as we were living in a hotel past the 30 day window. Also in order to register my son at his new school I had to register my vehicles. (Don’t ask it is a ridiculous requirement but a requirement nonetheless.) In order to register my vehicle I have to have a license in the state of Georgia. I was sure that I was not considered a permanent resident even though I lived here past 30 days because I LIVE IN A HOTEL! I called the DMV or whatever they call it in Georgia. I’m sure I need to go no further as you could guess that my “need to vent” starts here. I’m on hold way longer than should be allowed before being connected with a costumer "service” representative. I explain to her that I’ve lived here since Nov but I’m living in a hotel and I ask if I still have to get my license if I live in a hotel. She replies “you must get a license w/in 30 days of moving to a new state.” I say “even if I live in a hotel? She says yes and I say “so I put the address of the hotel down as my address?” And she says in a very annoyed tone “I don’t know why you have to make it so difficult.” You should have seen my face. My mouth flew open with a smile of disbelief. Did she really just say that to me? My response? “Okaay, thanks, bye.”
Needless to say my husband and I got all our stuff together and went to wait in line at the DMV (or whatever Georgia calls it). We walked out of the DMV with license in hand address: 6640 Bay Cir Norcross GA .30071. I was pretty proud or this accomplishment and felt excited to officially be a resident of Georgia.
On January 15 we FINALLY (remember we moved to Georgia NOV 1st) moved to our perfect house in the perfect city for a less-than-perfect price. In February I decide to change my address on my license. Conveniently Georgia allows you to do this for free online. So I quickly changed my address and waited. I was to allow 30 days. Fair enough. After 2 ½ months I decided I’d better check out what the hold up was. So I called and of course was put on hold for way too long, but was able to talk to someone that sounded as though he didn’t actually resent the fact that I was calling costumer service. He checked my status and told me that it was denied due to the fact that it could not verify my old address: 6640 Bay Circle Norcross Georgia 30071. I said well that is because it is a Marriott Towneplace Suites. I told him that I called someone in his office and she told me to put the hotel address down as my address. He said I am sorry she was wrong and explained why. Once I was off the phone, my ears began to smoke. That RUDE woman asked me why I had to make it so difficult. Now I’m going to have to go to the Division or Drivers Services (I just remember what they call it here) and change my address in person. I threw away the receipts that prove that I lived there. She told me to put the address of the hotel! I specifically asked that and she was RUDE to me and made me feel stupid. Oh my goodness. She has no idea the inconvenience she caused. SHE was making it "difficult." Oh grrr!
There is a magic to venting. I find satisfaction in being right even though it doesn’t change anything. I am still inconvenienced, BUT venting helps me come to gripes I mean grips with the situation and now I feel better and can suck it up and deal with it. And this RUDE lady?… well she does make for a good story. Ahh… I’m all better now.
